The kids will enjoy the wonderful Banana Chai as you play a game on the patio. The oldest independent coffee shop in Michigan and well worth trip if you are seeing an authentic, eclectic, cozy coffee house experience with great beverages, delicious crepes and other light menu options.

Falling Rock Cafe and Bookstore- Located in downtown Munising. This is one of our favorite stops in the entire state. Located in Munising and featuring delicious coffee, satisfying meals, books, live music and wonderful conversation. This is the quintessential independent store and embodies the charming, interesting, and important work of the small-business owner serving the needs of the community. Check it out!

Desserts and Treats

Shatila Bakery- With locations in West Bloomfield and Dearborn, you can not go wrong with a trip to Shatila. The lovingly created baklava, cakes, and pastries are feasts for the eyes as well as the palates. Amazing!

Meals

Leo's Coney Island This metro Detroit coney island chain is one of the most reliable meals around and at a great value. From Greek Salads to hearty omelettes, everyone in your family will find something to satisfy.

The Toasted Pickle- Located in Grand Haven. One of our destination lunches when on the West side of the state. Amazing sandwiches, satisfying soups and a fun, lively, down to earth environment. Something for every age group. Try one of their specialty lemonades.

Suzy's Pasties- Located in St. Ignace, this has one of the most satisfying pasties around-moist filling and tasty crust. Yummy!

Barb's Pasties- Located at 610 S. Main Street in Clawson, Michigan. Barb's has some of the the best pasties south of the bridge. Definitely stop and see.

Neehee's- Located on Ford Road in Canton. This features wonderful Indian vegetarian street food. We love eating the Papdi Chaat and watching cricket. It tends to be a bit spicy, so be sure to ask for mild if you do not enjoy the spicy foods. They even have a kid's menu with grilled cheese or the cheese and jam dosa.

Le Crepe Du Jour- Located in the River Place Shops in Frankenmuth, stop in this small, unassuming restaurant for delicious crepes. For a tasty dessert crepe, consider the Banana Foster crepe. I also recommend the spinach and feta crepe for a vegetarian lunch or dinner option.

Pekadill's- Located in Whitehall. This charming restaurant and ice-cream parlor is family owned and wonderful. It features a variety of delicious and healthy food from tuna sandwiches to salads and wraps. Families sit on the front porch eating ice cream and talk about the day at the beach or sit in their amazing back garden and enjoy a satisfying meal after a day of biking the Hart-Montague Trail. We've eaten at Pekadill's over a dozen times and never been disappointed.

Deli's and Markets

International Market- Located at 15383 Inkster Road, featuring a variety of middle-eastern foods. If you are looking for a snack of baba ghanoush and pita for your picnic at the park, then definitely stop here-theirs is amazing.

Westborn Market- One of the finest markets anywhere in America. WIth locations in Berkley, Dearborn, Livonia, and Plymouth, they have a great variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, prepared deli items with lots of vegetarian options, delicious soups, desserts and more. Perfect stop for all your picnic needs.

Bombay Grocers- This is one of my new favorite stores in the metro-Detroit area. It is small and stocked full of Indian grocery items. From tea to spices, to frozen Sag Paneer, they have it all. Treat yourself to a feast of color as you marvel at the interesting packaging and international items. Cap out your visit with a delicious dessert from their cooler near the register. Yummy!
